Nursing under the northern lights
This autumn 50 years have passed since the nursing education was founded in Hammerfest. The jubilee will be marked with a conference, exhibition and possibly a jubilee journal.
Important
The nursing education in Hammerfest has been an important part of Hammerfest’s townscape since it opened on 15 August 1960. The school was established as a result of Tromsø’s Red Cross nursing school not being able to meet the demands for trained nurses in both Troms and Finnmark, the two northernmost counties of Norway. Since then the institution has been an important supplier of skilled professionals to the health services in Finnmark as well as other parts of the country.
Name changes
Since it was founded, the school has been through many changes, among these two name changes. Since 1994 the school has been part of Finnmark University College as the Faculty of Nursing.
Conference
Dean Siw Blix at the Faculty of Nursing and the jubilee committee invite you to a conference on 30 September and 1 October. You can register online until 1 September 2010. Those who wish to participate with an abstract need to notify us about this before 1 May.
The jubilee committee is working on the main programme, the programme of the parallel sessions and practical information about the conference. These will be continually updated.
Pictures and stories
The Faculty of Nursing also collaborate with the The Museum of Post War Reconstruction for Finnmark and North-Troms on an exhibition about the 50 years of history the nursing education has in Hammerfest. The jubilee committee wishes to get in touch with people who have pictures or stories that can be used in connection with the exhibition. Do you have anything to pass on?
