Go to the local police station no later than 7 days after your arrival to Norway. You have to take your passport, copy of decision letter from UDI and a passport photo with you. There they will take a copy of your documents and send them to Hammerfest where the local immigration office is situated. You will after some time receive a residence card which from this year substitutes the sticker in your passport.
After you have received your residence card you must go to the population register office (folkeregisteret). At this office you have to apply for a social security number (personnummer). You will need your passport, a copy of your decision letter from UDI and your exact address in Alta. Social security number will be sent to you by surface mail some days later.
Go to the post office and fill out a form for newcomers where you inform about your address during study time. It is very important that you attach your name on the post box in the dormitory. If you fail to do so the postman won’t deliver your correspondence.
Go to a local bank when you have received your social security number. You will then be able to open a bank account for your loan/scholarship to be transferred to.
Ask your bank to fill out the K-form, which certifies that you own that bank account. You will get the K-form from your contact person at HiF.
